As a virtual administrative assistant, I can help your business thrive by taking on tasks that take you away from scaling your business and doing the things you enjoy to do.
But, is hiring a virtual assistant for everyone?
Let’s investigate!
Do You Have Space For an In-House Assistant?
If you hire a person to run some or all of the administrative tasks for your business, they will need some space to work. One of the advantages of hiring virtual is that he or she will using their own space and equipment. If you do have dedicated space, maybe hiring an employee is desirable.
How Often Do You Need Help?
Hiring a full or part-time assistant in-house means they are physically with you for typically 25-40 hours per week. Do you have enough tasks to fill those hours? Maybe you only need someone to take care of your invoicing for the month, or you need someone to prepare and send out your e-newsletter once a week. Or, maybe, you just have a big project you need help with. Do you necessarily need to pay someone for 40 or even 30 hours? Hiring a VA avoids that. You give them a task and they work on it and move on. There is no downtime to pay.
Do You Want to be Responsible for Paying Taxes?
A big advantage to hiring a VA is, unlike traditional employees, VAs pay their own taxes. Up front, you will get a W-9 form from them to give to your accountant, then track what you pay them. Easy. Unlike, paying a traditional employee, where you will pay them once a week, or biweekly, pay in their taxes once a month (or more), deal with child support, insurance, track vacation, etc. Some virtual assistants even provide a way for you to buy a “chunk” of time that is good for a year!
Just a few things to think about. The advantages of hiring a virtual assistant are many! But, some businesses may need to hire employees regardless of the circumstance.
Times seem to be changing in the direction of virtual, everything. Maybe now is the time to consider if hiring a VA is right for you!
